From humble beginnings in 1984 in a small San Luis Obispo home, John Wallace has grown Wallace Group into a 50-person firm covering engineering, design, surveying, and planning. The company takes on projects throughout the Central Coast, and has been instrumental in some of the largest improvement projects in the region including:
Topaz Solar Farm
Situated in the Carrisa Plains east of Atascadero, the Topaz Solar Farm is one of the largest solar projects in the world. When completed (scheduled for 2015), the farm will produce 550 megawatts of clean, renewable energy for use by PG&E customers, and will cover 3,500 acres. Wallace Group was brought in to complete permitting and civil engineering site design across the project.
Avila Bluff Erosion Repair
Avila Beach Drive is the only access road to the beloved Port San Luis Pier as well as the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. This beachside road was slowly being undercut by erosion from waves and the weather of the sea. Wallace Group was enlisted to provide land surveying, planning and engineering services. Wallace Group delivered a project that got the road back in action before the rainy season returned.
Point San Luis Lighthouse
The Point San Luis Lighthouse is an historic landmark in Avila. Visitors can enjoy a tour there throughout the year to learn about the seafaring history of the area. Wallace Group designed new facilities at the lighthouse including ADA walkways, a beach staircase, and a new restroom to make access easier for those interested in learning about the historic value of the lighthouse.
Orcutt Community Park
The Community of Orcutt in Santa Barbara County is steadily growing, and was in need of park space to serve it. Located in a small canyon, the 26-acre park uses the natural landscape to provide a fun and inviting space for the public to enjoy the beautiful area. With a full-size soccer field, two little league fields, play structures for kids, 1.4 miles of trails, and a dog park, Orcutt Community Park serves all needs. Wallace Group played a lead role in design of the park to match its natural surroundings and fit the needs of the whole community.
We’re honored to have Wallace Group as a sponsor of City to the Sea, and we’d like to thank them for their continued service in the ongoing improvement of our community.
