Course/Weather
City to the Sea Half Marathon is a point to point beginning in downtown San Luis Obispo and finishing in Pismo Beach. The course runs slightly downhill for 4 miles before beginning short rolling hills along country roads (5-6). The last, flat, 3 miles you are met with gorgeous views of the pacific ocean before reaching the finish. The 5k runs along the ocean front neighborhood by Dinosaur Cave Park. The course has slight inclines with one hill. The 1/2 Marathon Course is certified No pets or stroller/joggers allowed on the 1/2 marathon course. Average high temperatures for October in San Luis Obispo reach 79 degrees with average lows in the 50's. Pismo Beach is generally 2-5 degrees cooler. Average rainfall is .05 inches. The 2009 City to the Sea race was cool and overcast (perfect for distance running!) .
5K Run/Walk
The 5k run/ walk course from Dinosaur Cave Park takes you through the ocean front neighborhoods of Shell Beach, finishing back at the park. No pets allowed on the course, however, baby stroller/joggers are permitted on the 5k walk/run ONLY.
Aid
Five aid stations including liquids and emergency medical services are provided throughout the course
Registration/Fees

Half-Marathon start at Court St & Higuera. $60 registration until September 12th. $65 registration from September 13th - October 5th. Late Registration: $80 @ Kennedy Club Fitness Multiplex on Saturday, October 9th, 4 - 7pm and race day, Sunday, Oct 10 at Giuseppe's at the 1/2 starting line. 5K Fees The 5K Run starts at Dinosaur Caves Park, Pismo Beach. $30 registration until September 12th. $35 registration from September 13th - October 5th. $45 on Saturday, October 9th @ Kennedy Club Fitness Multiplex from 4 - 7pm, or race day, October 10th, from 6:30 - 7:30 am at the 5k start.
Packet Pick-up
Saturday, October 9 at packet pickup, 4-7 pm located at Kennedy Club Multiplex, 188 Tank Farm Rd. SLO
Sunday, October 11, 6:30 - 7:45 at the race start
The good stuff...
All registered runners receive an official long-sleeve event t-shirt, finishers prize and post race breakfast from Scotty's Bar & Grill, hosted at the Dinosaur Cave Park overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Additional meal tickets may be purchased (for $10) at the event. Transportation will be provided after the race back to downtown SLO when the bus is full.
Awards
Coffee mugs to the first 100 finishers across the finish line. Awards to top 3 overall finishers, men and women, in the half marathon & 5k. Age group medals to top 3 finishers in 9 age different age group categories!! Fantastic raffle prizes provided at the conclusion of awards ceremony.
Safety
The course is open for three hours only. Walkers must finish within that time period to participate in the half-marathon. Walkers that start before the race starting time will NOT be allowed through the finish chute. Sorry, no baby strollers, baby joggers, pets, or skates allowed on the course. Considerations made for runners with special needs. The course in suitable for wheelchair athletes.
Proceeds from this event benefit the Cuesta College Cross Country and Track and Field programs.
